Victims of flood

Hi everyone, on Monday July 15, my daughter was a victim of the level 2 State of emergency flooding in Burlington. She lives in Oakville but it was the burloak area (bordering Burlington) so her area unfortunately was affected too. She was awaken by what she described as sounding like a waterfall coming into her bedroom window and then she discovered it was ALL of the windows that had failed and had rain water pouring in. At that moment all of our lives would change as we knew it. After getting my 3 year old granddaughter to safety, she began scrambling over the next 24hrs to try and get whatever she could salvage out of her home. She could not find a moving company that she could afford and that was available to help in time for the property restoration company to come start ripping the walls and floors out, so she got a uhaul and some awesome folks from a Facebook group came to help her move her stuff onto the truck. She notified Halton Region about the flood and they said they would send her money for emergency accommodations but it would take 4 business days. She in the meantime called Wesley Ministries homeless shelter and they turned her away saying it’s the cities/landlords responsibility to put her up. She then called the Canadian Red Cross so she could get a hotel because I was watching her 3 year old daughter and I just had had surgery 8 days prior therefore I could not pick her up, change her, bathe her or anything so she had to secure a place for them to go so I could continue on healing and having my caretakers care for me. The Red Cross put them up in a hotel for 3 days and helped with food and clothing but when she called and begged for an extension she was told unfortunately they could not extend. Halton Region then backtracked and said that they could not actually help with money for accommodations even though 4 days before they said they would. They said to call Red Cross and Red Cross said to call Halton region so they’re all basically passing the buck. In the meantime while she waits for the process of getting her landlord to give her back her rent money (she’s going thru the LTB which could take months or who knows how long) she and my granddaughter are in desperate need of financial assistance. I am on leave from work since before my surgery so there’s not much I can do to help. Anything can help so they can find temporary arrangements to stay in, eat, find a new home and replace some of things that were destroyed in the flood. We thank everyone for taking the time to send kind wishes on her facebook and anyone that is able to help financially. God bless you all❤️
