Ashley and Shane’s infertility journey started in 2013 in Tupelo. After unsuccessful attempts to get pregnant, Ashley was sent to Birmingham where she had one damaged Fallopian tube removed. They attempted IUI(In Utero Insemination) but she was unable to conceive. After consultations and recommendations, they switched to Memphis in 2017 where she underwent several other procedures, involving removal of her 2nd tube, effectively taking away any chance of natural conception but allowing the best chance for IVF(In Vetro Fertilization) to work. IVF is not covered by insurance and is a lengthy, expensive process with no guarantee of success.
But in her best effort to finally conceive, she did an egg retrieval process resulting in 15 embryos. Then came two rounds of IVF, with one miscarriage in 2017 requiring a D&C. This last year, 2018, held more hope. The first IVF round had no results, but after the second she was able to sustain a pregnancy for several weeks. Everyone was hopeful. Baby furniture was purchased. But unfortunately she had a uterine tear that slowly overtook the baby. Another D&C was required. Ashley and Shane essentially lost hope that any further attempts would work, and the mental and financial strain was too much to handle.
This journey has now led to another option as just a few embryos remain. One that is going to require a higher cost but hopefully resulting in a beautiful, healthy baby.
A Gestational Carrier. Another woman, her sister, carrying their embryo to delivery.
Its not conventional. It’s not the way Ashley dreamed. She will not get to feel the sickness, flutters of a kick, or overwhelming love of knowing that you are carrying a piece of you under your heart. But at the end of this year, with lots of love, support, and prayer, she may be able to cradle her very own precious bundle of of joy.
Please pray for our family as we embark on this amazing journey. If you are financially able to donate to the cause, please know that your donation is humbly appreciated. Sometimes it takes a village to make miracles happen.
