As many of you know, this past year has been very challenging for me. I have shared my stories on Facebook about the brain seizures I have been having since November and I am under a neurologist's care. I have had two EEGs and an MRI.
In early January, I was diagnosed with uterine cancer after having abnormal symptoms for 13 years and ultrasounds and biopsies. I am now being treated by City of Hope.
On Tuesday, I had a CT scan to see if the cancer has spread. Today I am waiting to hear about going ahead with the radiation plans. This will be a five day a week, five week process.
Thank goodness for my health insurance, which is paying for everything. But financially I am struggling. I was laid off from the Record Gazette in 2020 and then was asked in 2021 to work part time for the Highland Community News. I worked there till April 2022 when the paper closed. I was transferred to the Redlands Community News for three weeks and then laid off again.
I have applied for full time work and been turned down. Unemployment ran out in October after four months. Freelance writing has not been as productive as I had hoped.
I cut my cable TV in November. I sold my Hyundai Sonata in January to get money to pay rent and other bills. That sale netted me $9. The car payments and car insurance were costing me $400 a month.
A friend gave me a car of his that was paid off and costs little insurance. I need to plan for six months to a year because my medical needs are still undetermined and I cannot work full time because of upcoming treatments.
I am hoping to raise a minimum of $25,000. My monthly rent is $900; car insurance is $43. cell phone is $100 and Spectrum wi fi is $43. My visa credit card is $500, I am behind on utilities at $850 for gas and electric. I will need gas for my car, which is $60 a tank. Car registration will be $300.
My social security starts in april but i am behind on february rent and March is coming up.
I know these are difficult times for everyone and if you donate any amount, I would be grateful. I have always been fiercely independent and have supported myself as a writer for 39 years. It is hard for me to ask for help but i cant afford to lose my apartment and fall more behind on my bills.
If you are not comfortable with Go Fund Me, you can contact me personally about a donation.
Thank you for your support.
