The Young Diamantaires Group is a young, vibrant, and dynamic group determined to change the world for the better!!!

Launched in 2016 at the 37th World Diamond Congress in Dubai, by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses as a discussion group, the group has grown & evolved into a global network of over 300 young professionals, all coming from the diamond and jewelry industry.

One of our objectives is to demonstrate the good, natural diamonds does for millions of people across the globe. Many of us have seen first-hand the contribution & lasting legacy that will remain imprinted on the hearts and souls of so many. We call it #MoreThanADiamond movement.

At the beginning of September 2019, 25 young diamantaires had the privilege & opportunity to visit the DeBeers Group, Venetia Mine located in Limpopo, South Africa. A trip that was put together by the DeBeers Group, and & the Young Diamantaires. A remarkably diverse group consisting of diamond traders/manufacturers, jewellery manufacturers, social media influencers, geologist and journalist from 10 different countries. (Australia, Belgium, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Singapore, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, and South Africa).

The objective of the trip was to gain a better understanding of the mining process, the impact natural diamonds have made to the surrounding communities, the impact natural diamonds have made on the environment and better understand what still needs to be done socially/economically.

Our story is about what we witnessed first-hand, and our "commitment to make a difference". We visited the Renaissance Secondary School in Limpopo, Musina, one of the 19 schools De Beers helped to build in South Africa (as part of the School Infrastructure Development Program).

A Brief Background on the School
The Young Diamantiare group visiting the Renaissance school 2019

  1.  The School is 11 years old.

  2.  Initially there was a total of 4 classrooms (Including office for admin), accommodating 120 students and four staff members/teachers.

  3.  The DeBeers Group invested in the infrastructure of the school, building additional classrooms which has resulted in the school today having; 1,140 students...with the additional classrooms.

The socio-economic impact this one school has brought to the surrounding community is phenomenal, as Venetia Mine is in an area where a large part of the population lives below the poverty line.

We learnt whilst visiting the school, that what they desperately needed was to build a library & kitchen/cafeteria. This is about empowering the students with access to knowledge and enable them to attend classes & extracurricular activities on a full stomach.

To be confronted with what we all take for granted , three meals a day , galvanised us into action, knowing that many families cannot afford to provide food for their children, hence a number of students are currently living on one or at most two meals a day.

The Young Diamantaires have committed towards raising the funds needed, which is a total of US$350,000.00 (Aussie $500,000.00) to build these two structures.

This is the first project we are taking on and it certainly isn't the last, as we are committed towards making a positive impact globally in each & every community where diamonds are not only mined, but cut polished, and set in jewellery.

Our vision is to make a positive impact globally & begin to re-write the diamond story.

We, as an industry are facing the most difficult time in the past 100 years as we transition from a world where everything was tangible to one which is digital. Factors like provenance (to demonstrate ethically & responsibly sourced rough) and a rise in consumer consciousness (don't tell me what you do for the community, SHOW ME), are aspects that our generation accept as fundamental.

We the next generation of diamantaires, are taking the' bull by the horn' to practice what we preach, that all entities in our industry must be united in the betterment of each other.

We invite you to join hands with us in safeguarding future generations, by making a donation towards the building of a library & kitchen, for the Renaissance Secondary School, in Limpopo South Africa.

We would be greatly honoured to welcome your Organization into our family, as we stand side by side, united in our vision & mission for the entire and extended industry. #MORETHANADIAMOND.
