****UPDATE MAY 17, 2024****
Tim had a successful kidney removal surgery yesterday, and was already able to go home today to start his recovery journey! Prior to his surgery they found a suspicious lymph node. During the surgery they were able to successfully remove the kidney and lymph node, both will be biopsied. We hope to have results in the next few weeks. At this time we ask that you check back here to receive updates to allow time for Tim to rest and focus on healing. We will be posting updates as soon as we have them. Thank you to everyone that has donated, please continue to share if you're able.
We are coming together as a community to rally behind Tim, our beloved friend, fighting a challenging battle against kidney cancer. With an upcoming surgery scheduled for May 16 to remove one of his kidneys, Tim will face an extended recovery period where he will be unable to work. This fundraiser aims to provide Tim with the financial support he needs to cover his medical bills and living expenses during this critical time.
Background:
Tim’s health journey took a turn in November 2023 when, after being treated for what he thought was asthma and low iron for the last 5 years, his oxygen levels were suddenly dangerously low and not improving. The doctors started performing pulmonary function tests and it was decided in December that he needed a CT scan of his chest and abdomen. The scans showed that his lungs looked good, but there was a mass on his kidney. In January 2024 Tim met with a Urologist who confirmed that the mass was cancer and that the best course of treatment would be to remove his kidney. Tim continued to have breathing issues and was put on oxygen 24/7, and after more tests in February to rule out heart issues before his surgery, it was discovered that he had a congenital heart defect (a hole in his heart) that needed to be closed. On March 22 he had a successful ASD closure surgery but used any remaining PTO that he had during that time to heal.
Tim had an updated CT scan April 22 to make sure the cancer had not spread. The results showed that the mass had not grown, but there was a questionable mass on a lymph node, so a follow up PET scan is scheduled May 8 to make sure that it’s not cancerous. His kidney removal surgery is scheduled for May 16.
Fundraising Goal:
Our goal is to raise funds to ease the financial burden on Tim during this challenging time. The funds will be used to cover Tim's medical expenses, including surgery costs, follow-up appointments, medications, and other related treatments. Additionally, we aim to support Tim by helping him meet his day-to-day living expenses, ensuring that he can focus on his surgery recovery without the added stress of financial worries.
