My name is Nathan. Mylee is my wife, she's 21 years old, and she is ill. She's had symptoms for a while -- for most of her life -- but in the past year her condition has escalated to debilitating. Since last October, she has not been able to return to work or many of her other activities.
We have taken her to doctors pretty consistently since last Fall, but there has not been a doctor yet that can help her. They either tell her there is nothing wrong with her, or try to put her on meds that have only made her symptoms worse, or "diagnose" her by telling her the symptoms she already knows she has, with no explanation for them. They have tried only to treat the symptoms, and none of the suggested treatment options have worked because the doctors have not been able to find the root of all of her symptoms. Mylee has had a lot of testing done. Mylee has found no answers. A lot of well-meaning people have suggested the things they think may be wrong with her, prompting her to get tested for them. The truth is that without either a doctor's referral or a huge influx of cash, we have absolutely no power over the tests she gets, because we are at the mercy of the conventional healthcare system. The hoops we have to jump through are weighing down on us.
The reason we are starting this page is because I, as her husband, cannot completely continue to fund the medical costs, and Mylee cannot return to work to raise money herself.
When we first started this fundraising page, we were hoping to get Mylee to the Mayo Clinic. Unfortunately, we recently found out that even the Mayo Clinic will not take her on as a patient; they rejected her application. This was a huge blow, but we won't stop here.
Mylee has officially dropped out of college, as her health continues to worsen. We now turn our focus completely on getting her a correct diagnosis and solid treatment. We may still have a while ahead of us, but we will not stop trying to figure out what is going on in her body, no matter how many doctors turn her away. We will keep going until she returns to health, or at least until we know what we're facing.
For the moment, we have turned off donations. However, we will continue to post updates. And as we seek further testing and treatment, if other pressing medical costs arise -- as we're almost sure they will -- we will make our needs known and allow donations once again.
Please feel free to continue to spread this page around; prayer is powerful.
