Help KLAMAR Bring the Sound of Timor-Leste to Europe
A Rare Opportunity for Timorese Music
In August and September 2026, KLAMAR has been invited to perform at international events in the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Portugal and the United Kingdom, bringing the music and culture of Timor-Leste to audiences across Europe.
For independent musicians from Timor-Leste, opportunities to travel across Europe are rare.
After more than 17 years of performing and creating music, we now have the chance to share our sound on international stages and connect with Timorese communities living far from home.
To make this journey possible, we need your support.
Thanks to supporters in the UK and Ireland, we have already secured enough funding to book the first leg of our flights from Jakarta to Amsterdam. Every additional contribution helps us complete the journey.
Who We Are
KLAMAR is a contemporary fusion band from Timor-Leste. Our music blends the rich cultural traditions of Timor-Leste with contemporary influences including rock, ska, reggae, funk, folk, and the hypnotic rhythms of traditional tebe-tebe music.
For us, music is more than entertainment. It is a celebration of Timorese identity, resilience, community, and cultural pride.
Klamar’s Story
The story of KLAMAR began in 2009 in the small town of Lospalos, in the eastern part of Timor-Leste. What started as a group of young dreamers sharing a love for music gradually became a lifelong journey of hope, perseverance, and representing their people through song.
Music was never just entertainment for KLAMAR. It was a way to tell stories, preserve identity, and inspire others. Growing up in a young nation with limited opportunities for musicians, the band faced many challenges, limited resources, few performance venues, financial struggles, and the uncertainty of building a career in music. Yet, they refused to give up. Every obstacle only strengthened their determination to keep creating and sharing their voices.
Over the past 17 years, KLAMAR has grown from a local band into one of Timor-Leste's proud musical ambassadors. They have performed on important stages, released songs that resonate with audiences across generations, and earned the admiration of fans both at home and abroad. Their music has become a symbol of resilience, love for culture, and the dreams of a new generation of Timorese artists.
Representing Timor-Leste internationally is more than an opportunity for KLAMAR, it is a responsibility they carry with immense pride. Every performance abroad is a chance to show the world the beauty, talent, and spirit of their homeland. Behind every song they sing is the memory of where they came from: the streets of Lospalos, the people who believed in them, and the dream that a small band from Timor-Leste could make its voice heard across borders.
For KLAMAR, this journey has never been only about music. It is about carrying the hopes of their community, honoring their roots, and proving that dreams born in Timor-Leste can resonate around the world.
Why This Tour Matters
Bands in Timor-Leste are rarely represented on international music stages.
This tour is an opportunity to share a modern Timorese cultural voice with audiences across Europe while strengthening connections with Timorese communities living overseas.
For many members of the Timorese diaspora, opportunities to experience live music from home are limited.
Through these performances, we hope to bring people together through the language, stories, rhythms, and spirit of Timor-Leste.
Confirmed International Engagements
Pacific Roots Fest 2026 | Amsterdam | 15–16 August 2026
KLAMAR has been invited to perform at Pacific Roots Fest in Amsterdam, a multicultural festival celebrating indigenous, roots, and contemporary global music.
This event provides an opportunity to introduce Timorese contemporary fusion music to new European audiences and strengthen cultural exchange between Timor-Leste and the international creative community.
Tickets available at: https://tifamagazine.nl/
UK Community Performances
KLAMAR has also received invitations to perform for Timorese communities in the Peterborough and Oxford. Over the years, KLAMAR has developed a strong following among Timorese communities living in the United Kingdom, and many supporters have been asking us to perform there for years. These performances will provide an opportunity to connect diaspora audiences with the culture and spirit of home.
Additional European Cultural Engagements
This is not simply a music tour. It is a cultural journey representing Timor-Leste on international stages.
Alongside our confirmed invitations, we are working with cultural organizations, artists, and community groups to expand the journey through additional performances, workshops, collaborations, and cultural exchanges across Europe.
The line-up currently includes:
• 26 August: Munster, Germany
• 10-12 September: Pisa and Lucca, Italy
• 19 September, Coimbra, Portugal

For 17 years, KLAMAR has proudly shared the music of Timor-Leste. Now we have the opportunity to bring that music to international audiences and to Timorese communities living abroad.
When KLAMAR steps onto stages in Amsterdam, Oxford, Porto, Pisa, and beyond, we will carry more than our instruments. We will carry the stories, language, culture, and spirit of Timor-Leste with us.
Thank you for helping us make that journey possible.
Viva Timor-Leste!
