Reese’ Road to Recovery
On August 23rd my son’s life changed forever, when he fell victim being the passenger in alife threatening, catastrophic collision. The opposing truck was pulling out of the parking lot of Firehouse 52 and Dollar General. He struck the vehicle my son was the passenger of (the images posted on my Facebook shows the severity of the collision). When I look at the pictures and video, my strongest emotion I feel is blessed that he survived that night.
Between the civilians helping, the police, theEMS and care flight team Marcus was able to make it to Medical City Denton, where he is now under the care of the hospital’s medical team. I was in tears when the care flight team came to Marcus’ ICU room to check on him a couple days later. To hug a couple of the people that helped save my son’s life that night, my love for them is so strong, I did not want to let them go…
Marcus is a fighter for sure, he is the toughest kid I know! The list of injuries he is having to battle through this process in unbelievable.
Everything from his femur broke in half almost protruded through the skin, right hand shattered, left hand broke, contusions on kidney and lung, knocked out teeth, jaw bone broken and hanging in his skin, cheek bone broken, brain bleeding. He’s already had a few surgeries, possibly will need more. Jaw is wired shut and attached with permanent metal plates so he can’teat or talk, left hand has permanent titanium plates, right hand pieced back together with meta pins.
With his jaw wired shut and both his hands broken he won’t be able to talk, write or type so communication will be difficult plus he won’t be able to even pick up a glass or open a door. Right before he was supposed to get into his last surgery he became unstable with them discovering he now has fluid in his lungs(pneumonia) and his brain is swelling. He is still on the ventilator and they had his body paralyzed due to these circumstances.
I am not sure what options are available to him and I during this recovery process. Ea. Medical supplies, home nursing, financial, etc. Anyone with knowledge that would help us would be greatly appreciated. Even something as simple as an idea on how to help us communicate. I am a single mom off four trying to figure this out.
