Support for Brazil Flooding Relief
Don protégé
Hey friends,
I'm reaching out today on behalf of all brazilian founders, with a heavy heart, to tell you about the awful floods hitting my home state in Brazil. It's turned into the worst natural disaster we've ever seen, leaving behind a trail of destruction and sadness that's hard to fathom.
The flooding
About two weeks back, a big storm hit Rio Grande do Sul, causing floods like we've never experienced. Rivers surged more than 150 feet above their usual levels, wrecking bridges, blocking roads, and breaking dams, flooding everything in sight. The area hit hardest is the Vale do Taquari, where I live in Taquari with 24,000 other folks. Some of these are friends and buddies from the Brazilian YC community, who've either been rescued from danger or lost everything, even loved ones.
This is my hometown ⬆️
But it's not just us. The disaster spread far and wide, affecting big cities and over 1.5 million people. Many are still missing, and the stories of loss and pain are just heart-wrenching. The rescue teams—both military and civilian—are working non-stop, trying to reach those stuck in flooded buildings and isolated areas.

Brazil, while resilient, is not a nation blessed with abundant resources, and the vast majority of those impacted lack the means to rebuild their lives. We're at a crucial point now, with the floods going down but the huge job of rebuilding ahead. But even in this tough time, there's hope. People are coming together to help those in need.
Meet João
To give you a personal perspective, let me introduce João, one of the groomsmen from my wedding. His house, marked in red on the photo, was never threatened by floods before, but this time it was completely submerged.
João's family lost everything they owned, but thankfully, they were able to escape with their lives, as well as their beloved dog and two cats. Rebuilding their home is simply beyond their means without some extra help. This story underscores the urgent need for support that many families like João's are facing in the aftermath of this disaster and the ones we’re urging to help.
Our aim is simple
Gather donations from folks like you and use it to help families get back on their feet. With your support, we want to provide basics like cleaning up homes, fixing them, and giving out stuff like appliances and furniture. Every bit helps, no matter how small—it all adds up to make a real difference to those going through hell right now.
Together, we can make a change and bring a bit of brightness to those hit by this tragedy.
So, I'm asking you to chip in. Your generosity will be a light in the dark, showing the way to recovery and hope for our communities.
How you can help
The plan is to gather as much money as we can and help out family by family. We'll split the funds to give direct help where it's needed most—whether it's fixing homes, getting essentials like mattresses and wardrobes, or whatever else they need to start over.
Thank you on behalf of all brazilian founders.
