So I wouldn't be doing this unless we truly needed the help. Nick and I have had a bunch of bad luck these past 6 month. From a tough and risky pregnancy to our daughter coming early to finding out we had carbon monoxide poisoning from our furnace leaking to having to get it legally shut off until we bought a new one, to my uncle passing then nicks grandma passing to Alora having colic and having to get a tongue tie procedure hoping it would help her with her feeding issues which it kind of did thankfully. We’re trying to get me back to work once we secure daycare and figure out scheduling. Which we will.
We have manage through all of this and truthfully other obstacles/hardships. But this news tonight took us by surprise fast and it’s not something we can make payments on unfortunately or we would be going that route.
Pumpkin wasn’t acting her usual self which if you know she is friendly and energetic. This dog loves hard and honest is the most loving thing I have ever met.
It started yesterday when she seemed a bit off. Then today we wanted to lift her spirits up so we took her to her favorite place which is the park to throw her favorite ball around but she wouldn’t walk and just seemed like she didn’t have much interest in the park or her ball. Then we went and got her some doggie broth. I normally boil chicken with broth when they seem to not be feeling well. But she wouldn’t eat at all which never happens Miss Pumpkin LOVES food. Then when she was walking to me tonight her legs gave out almost like she passed out. Her gums were white. So I told nick to take her into the emergency vet office. He rushed her there.
Thankfully they got her in. We live in Juneau now which has a vet crisis so we are lucky we even got in. We were just hoping it was a normal issue that can be fixed with a quick vet visit. But unfortunately it’s not.
The vet said it’s her immune system it started to fail her. And if we didn’t get her in she wouldn’t have made it another week.
Her blood work came back saying she has Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. Which is a condition where the body’s immune system attacks and removes its own red blood cells, thus leading to severe anemia then an unhealthy yellow coloring of tissues called jaundice or icterus and then an assortment of life threatening complications start to form. The Mortality approaches 70 % so an aggressive approach is necessary. So to save her we need to do multiple blood transfusions and immune-suppressive drugs are needed.
The vet is optimistic she can pull through. Another local dog also had this happen recently and was able to recover back to normal once it went through the same care. If she doesn’t get the treatment she will not make it. Her kidney function went down to 8.2 and she is supposed to be at 29.5. They were able to give her some medication and a shot to get her through the night. We have an appointment for the first round of treatment which is a blood transfusion. She can only do two and if they don’t work then we will have to say goodbye to Pumpkin. We want to give her a fighting chance. She is worth it. Nick and I normally can work our way through a lot of problems but this one we truly do need help with.
Pumpkin was the first to know I was pregnant she stayed by my side the whole time. Even after Alora came she waited till I gained strength again then joined in by Alora’s side and won’t leave her alone. She loves her so much. I’m praying they get more time together. There’s a reason we named our daughter after our dog. We love Riley and Pumpkin so much. Any move or choice we have done was for them. They are our family. Please if you can donate we truly would appreciate it. We are going to try to come up with the money fast but I got told tonight that I should reach out for help because she needs the first round of treatment by tomorrow. We don’t need anything for our up coming birthdays and Alora has everything she needs. Please just help us save Pumpkin. With the vet saying she has a chance we will do our best for her to make it through this. It’s okay if you cannot donate please share and most importantly send all the prayers and good vibes Pumpkins way. She is worth taking a chance on. She always has been. And always will be worth fighting for.
If you have made it this far thank you. This has been so stressful lately but we truly do count our blessings having one another has always been the biggest blessing that I don’t take for granted. I’m praying we all get to stay together a bit longer. Thank you again for even taking a moment to read this.
I will show the bills on this post. And update everyone along the way. If you would like to donate directly to the vets office please reach out to Summit Veterinary Services.

Billing to Chelsea Anderson
Patient Pumpkin Anderson
first round of treatment will cost $1,529.52
we got billed $700 to find out the results and get enough meds to get her through the night but they were kind enough to waive some fees so we paid $420 tonight. If she doesn’t take to the first blood transfusion we have to give her another round which is $1,529.52 again. Plus pay for medication and services fees. And unfortunately they do not take payment plans. So we are having to pay right away.
