INTRODUCTION:
My name is Ashley Martinez and I love the Lord and my family so very much. I grew up very close to my loving parents, brothers, and God.
Even though I didn't grow up with a lot of material wealth, I did not sense a big financial lack in my upbringing; in fact, it seemed quite the opposite because my parents were always so giving.
I always remember hearing my mom and dad give genuine praise and thanks to God for everything they had, and whatever they could offer, they’d give in a heartbeat to those with greater needs. Even if they didn’t have the funds at the moment, they frequently offered their living room for a struggling friend or family to live in; often times we had people stay with us for weeks or months, sometimes a year or more. Their open hearts and open home was a pattern to me and a blessing for our entire family in so many ways. My parents have always been so incredibly sweet, humble, gentle, and kind…they have been this way my whole life.
My dad- PEDRO MARTINEZ:
On top of having such open and loving hearts, my parents have also always been hard workers. My dad, Pedro Martinez, started working as a very young child in El Salvador, his home country. Later on he came to the US and learned English while working to raise enough money with his siblings to bring his whole family to the US. He met my mom in the US and they have been inseparable for almost 35 years. Up until right before my dad got diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago, he worked loyally for the same company for 25 years.
ADVANCED LIVER CANCER:
This past summer in June was when we found out my dad had advanced liver cancer. It was a time I never want to relive--a whirlwind of fear, awful doctors appointments, many tears, and even at times a complete sense of hopelessness. I can only thank the members of the church and loved ones for praying during this time, as I believe it is the only thing that pulled me personally out of despair.
My family means so much to me, and in considering the giving life my mom and dad have lived, I cannot help but be desperate for them in this time of great need, struggle, and pain, which is why there was no question in me to pause grad school/work/wedding to move home in July of 2015 to take care of them. I am thankful to the Lord that I could move home, find part-time work, and help take care of them; however, the financial burden that any serious disease often puts on a family is overwhelming, to say the least. After praying about this matter for awhile, I now have the peace to reach out to loved ones, to family, and to friends, about helping in any way possible to fund my dad financially so that he can continue to heal from cancer.
Since my dad has advanced liver cancer, the options in conventional treatment were very limited; the one conventional treatment we were offered at UCLA has brought us into a lot of debt we have yet to figure out how to pay back. On top of being incredibly expensive, that conventional treatment unfortunately had only left my dad sicker (particularly in August and September).
ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT FOR MY DAD:
Due to the fact that there are not many conventional options for my dad, we had to resort to alternative treatments. I heavily researched/and am still researching alternative treatments to cancer and I have been keeping (along with my brothers) my dad on a very strict diet since July (if you are curious to know more about his daily routine, just ask me personally via email or in person…there is too much to list in detail here). So far, he is showing very positive signs in these last couple of months. His energy level has improved a lot; he is able to go out with us, he is able to continually host weekly bible studies and prayer meetings in our home, and even his largest tumor shrank some. Praise the Lord!
I am so thankful for my dad’s positive attitude and his trust in the Lord this entire time. He has been a real testimony of the faithfulness of God. I am also thankful that he is doing better now than a couple months ago. Although he has been making progress, his cancer is still advanced and serious, so there is a need to be seen by a specialized doctor (he is an MD and homeopathic doctor combined) who has been helping heal cancer patients for over 30 years in Mexico…I have contacted the clinic personally and researched the treatments at this clinic, which have no adverse side affects, and have been proven to actually help cure even “terminal” cancers. This clinic is also much more affordable than other alternative treatment centers that I have been looking into. There are countless cancer patients who were, like my dad, not given a very good outcome, yet are still living a quality life 15-20 years later after doing the natural treatments offered at this center.
COSTS OF THE TREATMENT
For 6 months of treatment at the clinic in Mexico, including all the tests/consultations, we will need about 6,000 dollars…even the smallest gift would be appreciated beyond words.
PRAYER REQUEST
I understand there are so many struggling right now, so do not feel pressured at all to donate. Please do continue to pray for my dad and family--that is ultimately the best gift anyone can ever give/receive.
These next six months I pray to the Lord that we may keep our home, that we may afford the organic foods and numerous natural supplements that have already tremendously helped my dad’s energy level and quality of life, and that we may continually keep our home open to the prayer meetings and bible studies of the church. I also pray that my dad can make it to the clinic in Mexico as soon as our funds allow us to do so. Please continue to pray.
In retrospect I realize we were one of the most blessed and wealthiest families growing up; we had AN ABUNDANCE of God’s eternal life, love, support, care, and all of the deeper unseen things that truly matter in life. I am eternally grateful to my Lord Jesus.
All the praise and glory to Him,
-Ashley Martinez
PS. I will update with progress of my dad Pedro Martinez. Thank you so much!
