Almost a year ago, my brother, Jacob, was working as a behavioral counselor at the Mosaic Cancer Center. Little did we know that the very disease that he comforted and counseled countless patients through would end up ravaging his own life. He is currently in the ICU at KU Med Center fighting for it. Through this harrowing time, Jacob has remained faithful and sharp, and has not lost his sense of humor. I have seen the power of love firsthand by witnessing my sweet brother face death head-on and continue to feel the power of so many prayers and continue to fight...Here is a message from Jake, "The reality has finally set in and this disease has taken its toll on my body. I have to decide if I will need to receive a tracheotomy or not. As of now, I have been extubated and working hard to breathe on my own. I am also working hard to gain my strength back.
