The Fort Bragg Leos (youth club of the Fort Bragg Lions) raise funds to help famlies that have children fighting cancer. They have started this GoFundMe account for a local 4 year old, Camila Cherrez.
The Leos recently heard of a young girl who recently was diagnosed with Leukemia. They met the family, and here is their story:
Camila Cherrez is 4 years old and in March 2015, was diagnosed with Lymphocytic (or lymphoblastic) Leukemia (ALL). This brave young girl is now getting Chemo Therapy treatments at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Mildred, her mother, is taking Camila there and they have to stay for at least a week, each time. They have been gone 3 weeks out of each month. Jose, Camila’s father, works as a Baker in Mendocino, and has had to stay home to care for their 6 year old son, Xabi, to make sure he was going to school. The separation of the family has been very difficult. Mildred has had to handle the coordination of the Chemo Treatments and medical appointments, alone, while Jose has had to stay home, go to work and care for Xabi, alone. Now that school is out, they plan to have the whole family go down to be with Camila, during her treatments.
Camila and her mother have stayed at The Children’s Hospital Oakland Family House, but only if there is a room available. Oftentimes, they do not know when the next Chemo treatment will be, due to how well Camila is doing, and if the Family House is full, they have to find a hotel. The expense of a hotel along with the cost of gas, bridge tolls, parking ($9.50 every 3 hours), and meals is taking a financial toll on the family.
The Leos hosted a Zombie Walk on June 27th and have already raised $1,565.50.
