I recently found out I got accepted into the THREAD at YALE Storytelling workshop! I really need your support to help me go.
As many of my friends and family know, I'm a passionate storyteller but for those who don't know me here's my story...
In 2011 I was selected to take part in the United Nation’s Human Rights Fellowship Program for people of African-descent. This became the starting point for me to pursue my career in journalism and documentary film. In 2017 I was selected as a Corus Diverse voices filmmaker to take part in Hot Docs’ Filmmaker’s lab. I am an alumni of the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC)'s Breakthrough Program (2018), and Black Women Film Canada (2016).
My work has been featured on CBC's The Doc Project, CBC Books and most recently, CBC's Personal Best podcast and The Atkinson Foundation's Just Work It Podcast.
I am currently developing a number of projects, including a feature documentary project and a podcast project. The opportunity to attend this program at YALE will allow me to access mentorship and feedback about my project. This workshop is about pushing the boundaries of the mediums we use to tell stories, and this is what I hope to do with the stories I tell in my work as a journalist and filmmaker.
COST
The workshop takes place June 10th-13th 2018. The cost for tuition is 2,000 USD which converts loosely to 2,500 CAD, which includes accommodation & breakfast for the duration of the program.
Transportation to Yale University in New Haven Connecticut where the weeklong workshop will take place will cost me approximately 300-500 CAD.
I've applied to scholarships, and sent proposals to see if I can get financial support and I was not able to get anything. I'm putting my pride and ego aside and I'm turning to my community to see if I could get some help from you. Anything you can spare would be really appreciated!
