Ya Ya Medical Clinic
The picture you see on this site is the future home of the Ya Ya Clinic in Woreta, Ethiopia. The goal of the clinic is to provide healthcare to the residents of Woreta and neighboring villages who otherwise would have to go without.
"Ya Ya" is the nickname of Nebrit Tesfa, the brother of Janet Asege. Ya Ya was hit by a stray bullet as he stood in the yard of the family home. Janet and her family were forced to care for Ya Ya in her parent's bed because there was no medical facility available. The nearest hospital was 45 minutes away but the road was impassable due to a bridge being destroyed during a previous battle.
My own experience was from 2010 when I boarded a bus in Woreta to travel to a town 45 minutes away. Also on the bus was an 8 year old girl who had been bitten by a dog. As we traveled the road the child screamed, both in pain and in fear of having to travel. The hushed discussions in the bus was that she was not going to make it...the bite was too bad and had gone too long without treatment.
It is Janet's goal to make sure that other families do not have to tell these stories. Your donation goes to support the efforts to bring this clinic to life in order to save a life.
