Help fix my car

Hi, my name is Heather.

On April 27, my house was broken into by thieves who stole my purse, a bunch of random things they could grab from around the house, and my car. I had just spent all of the money I had getting my car out of the shop. It was a grotesque, stunning blow, and for days afterwards, I raged, cried, and prayed, hoping against hope that my car would turn up.

The most heartstopping conversation I had during that search was with a police officer who assured me that our city police had an excellent track record for finding stolen cars. I asked her what would happen if they found it- would I have to come pay to get it out of city impound? She said, "No. If it's driveable, we just call you to come get it."

If it's driveable.

I quietly lost my mind a little bit more.

On May 10, I got the "we found your car" call. It had been left in an apartment building's parking lot a week before. Inside were a lot of things that had been stolen, like my dead father's hat and my daughter's shoes. But the thieves had gone for one final blow.

My car was found with its catalytic converter ripped out, its muffler literally dragging the ground.

The tow truck guys were able to recommend an outstanding mechanic who would be willing to work with me and not charge an arm and a leg to get the repair done (according to Google, the catalytic converter of an older model Prius can be up to $3,000 to replace). I couldn't afford full coverage insurance, so I don't have any theft or damage coverage. The repair was going to come entirely out of pocket.

The estimate I got from the mechanic this morning is $1,200.

I don't have $1,200.

Anything that anyone can give to help would be appreciated. It's not just about the car- although getting around in Missouri without one isn't easy- but about trying to get my life back to normal after the burglary. I'm at a very low point right now and could really use some kindness.
