December 13, 2018 Jordan and Calli Schouten received devastating news! Their amazingly, strong, brave and absolutely remarkable son Nash was diagnosed with a large brain tumor. Jordan and Calli were given some very scary statistics! On Friday December 14, 2018 Nash underwent his first brain surgery at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. He was so resilient, strong and brave! The surgeons thought they were able to remove most of the tumor and Nash was put in the ICU where he was able to rest and recover.
December 17, 2018 Nash had an MRI that showed there was still about 10% of the brain tumor left. Jordan and Calli, along with the surgeons, agreed it would be in Nash's best interest to go back into surgery immediately. Nash underwent his second brain surgery. His surgery went well and was a success. The surgeons were confident that they were able to remove all of the tumor.
December 23, 2018 was a very special day for Nash and his family! Jordan and Calli were able to bring their baby home!! When just ten days ago they didn't know if that would be a possibility!
January 4, 2019 Jordan and Calli received more devastating news, the brain tumor that had been removed was cancerous. Nash was diagnosed with a high grade Glial Neoplasm, which is a highly aggressive type of brain cancer and is typically only seen in adults. Nash will have to undergo 6-8 weeks of proton radiation and will need to do chemo therapy for at least a year following. For the proton radiation Jordan, Calli and Nash will have to travel to Seattle, Washington where Nash will be treated at Seattle Children's Hospital. Jordan and Calli will be flying back and fourth between Utah and Seattle to spend time with their other two son's Tanner and Colton. As you can imagine, the medical, day to day, and travel expenses are going to add up quickly! Let's help ease their financial burden so they are able to focus on what's important and be there for their son, who so desperately needs all the love, prayers and support he can get right now!
