I am incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to spend 10 weeks studying medicine in India and Sri Lanka. Starting in February, I’ll spend five weeks at the University of Ruhuna Hospital in Unawatuna, Sri Lanka, learning from specialists in emergency medicine and community health. I’ll gain insight into medical practices that differ vastly from those I’ve experienced within Oxford!
Following this, I’ll join ASHWINI, a charitable health organisation based in the Nilgiris region of South India. With their team, I’ll travel to rural villages across the area, focusing on delivering obstetric care to pregnant women and newborns. I believe this will be an eye-opening experience, giving me a deeper understanding of global health and a broader perspective on the realities of delivering care in different environments. The fee I pay to spend this time with ASHWINI is used exclusively for running the health programme for the communities that they support. Thank you for helping me!
