Yas' top surgery fund!

I'm Yas and I'm fundraising for my gender-affirming care. I'm a big fan of films, walks in nature and my two sweet cats, Roo and Rocket. I'm a big-time homebody but love to spend time with my partner + our friends. Having struggled with my gender identity for as long as I can remember and being aware of my body's incongruence with it, my self-image has been hugely impacted over the years, but I am hopeful that I will become more confident + accepting of myself when I am able to access the affirming care I'm seeking.

I have been on the waitlist at my local GIC for roughly 5 years now, and whilst I have been told I shouldn't have too much longer to wait until my first appointment, the estimated time it will take for me to undergo the transition process I am seeking from there is another 7 years. In spite of how uncomfortable I am in making this public fundraiser and relying on the generosity of my peers to help me take my healthcare private, I feel it is currently one of the only ways that I can take control of my life and feel hopeful about one day becoming more at home in my body and able to more freely enjoy living, especially whilst we are living under a government which is actively hostile to its trans and queer population.

The money raised in this fund will go towards my top surgery, travel to appointments and any subsequent costs that occur during recovery. For transparency, I have been trying to save as much as I possibly can to add to this fund myself, but I am not in a comfortable financial position to save consistently to the degree I would like. The goal amount is based on my own research of private healthcare estimates of top surgery and recovery costs - any money raised over the target or not used I will distribute to other trans fundraisers.
