YARID Response to COVID-19

Name is David Boze and I'm looking to support my very good friend Robert Hakiza and his NGO which serves refugees in Kampala.
Because of the outbreak of the pandemic Corona virus, the Government of Uganda announced on 30th March a total lockdown leaving every Ugandan with no other option but to stay home. In the capital city of Kampala, there are a total of 79,958 refugees and asylum seekers, most of whom live hand to mouth. Without their ability to perform their daily work activities due to the government enforced lockdown, these refugees are not being able to buy food, making them one of the most affected populations in the country. Currently, many refugees are more afraid of hunger than COVID-19.
These government measures have put many refugees in a precarious, and potentially disastrous situation. As much as refugee communities need information to stop the spread of COVID-19, they equally need food and other essentials for them to allow them to follow the government guidelines while still putting food on the table. There is currently desperate need for food supply to refuges in Kampala as a means to keep them safe in their homes until the virus has been stopped.
As discussed in the UNHCR Urban Refugees Coordination meeting, it was clearly stipulated that urban refugees are in urgent need if food, medical attention among others.
Young African Refugees for Integral Development (YARID) on its own capacity has been distributing food and nonfood items to the most vulnerable refugees in the city, so far it has reached 192 households but there is still many in need that we are not in position to support because of our very limited resources.
This campaign is to raise $5000 to support up 200 refugee households with food supplies and sanitizers during this lockdown.
