Yarhzeit of Rabbi Marc Blumenthal

Hi, my name is Michael and I am the sponsee of Rabbi Marc Blumenthal. Marc came into my life in 2019 where he was working at Beit T'shuvah in Culver City California. He was a pillar of love and wisdom in the community and was really invested in his career, recovery and life. In 2021 Marc agreed to sponsor me after a hard relapse and he changed my entire life. He knew exactly what my struggles were and did everything possible to walk me through them. At times even holding my hand moment to moment when my fears and anxiety flared up. Marc saved my life.

In November of 2021 Marc was admitted to Cedars Sinai hospital. He was diagnosed with liver failure due to some recent medication changes. A month later on December 3rd he sadly passed away surrounded by loved ones in California.

Marc was a man of service and he loved people. He cared deeply about others oftentimes neglecting his own wants in exchange for helping someone else. He was selfless and kind. Loving and sarcastic. He would tell it like it is and laugh at the irony of life.

When Marc passed he was 3 years sober. He sought treatment for his addiction at Beit T’shuvah in Culver City. The place that employed him during his sobriety. He loved the organization that helped save and nourish his soul. He worked in the alternative sentencing department where he helped Jewish convicts turn their own lives around.

In Jewish tradition we remember and honor the lives we have lost in several ways. One way we do this is by adding their name to a Yarhzeit wall. A Yarhzeit is the yearly anniversary of someone’s passing. Each year next to their name a light is lit in their honor for the community to remember.

In remembrance of Marc’s 2nd Yarhzeit I am asking for help adding his name to the Yarhzeit wall. Adding his name will ensure that his memory will not be forgotten and continue to be honored at Beit T’shuvah.

All funds donated will be directly used to pay for the engraved plaque that will be added to the wall. Any amount donated is incredibly appreciated and I know would mean a lot to Marc.
