Refugee Family Rental Emergency
Donation protected
Hello! The beautiful people in this photo are Ngaba and Merci, the proud parents of Solomon, Bernard, Nathan, Ruth, and little Sara (and expecting another baby boy very soon). They are refugees from the Central African Republic and they arrived in the US with help from Us Together , a refugee resettlement organization in Columbus, Ohio. Their caseworker is also pictured here.
Ngaba and Merci have been trying to find employment with help from Us Together, but despite the numerous applications they have submitted, they have not been hired yet. They speak a tribal dialect, Mbae, that is only spoken by one other family in all of Ohio. Despite their best efforts (they come to English class and they practice at home), learning English has proven incredibly difficult for them.
My name is Sophie. I work at Us Together with many other refugee families. I care very much about these individuals' wellbeing, acknowledging that they are all incredibly courageous, strong-willed people who have survived unimaginable violence in their home countries. I visit Ngaba and Merci twice a week to teach them English and Financial Literacy and to help them read their mail.
Last week when I was visiting them, I saw that they had received an eviction notice(due to past-due rent payments) and a letter stating that they are 2 months past due on their travel loan (the money they had to borrow in order to flee the danger of their home country and pay for their plane tickets to the United States). I succeeding in applying for a deferral on their travel loan, but YOU are the ones who helped prevent their eviction! Thank you!
I am asking for your help to keep this wonderful family in their home until Ngaba and Merci both find work and are able to earn their own income.
YOU succeeded in pulling together over $1,400.00, which enabled the Nodjitan family toremain safely in their home. Thank you!
Our goal now is to raise more money so that they are able to pay back some of their medical and travel loan debt from when they left the refugee camp in Chad and entered the United States.
Absolutely any donation amount will help this family immensely.
Thank you for your compassion and your generosity.
