Yan and Tanya

Donation protected
Our dear friend in Dnipro, Ukraine, Tanya Sidelkovsky, coordinator of Action for Post Soviet Jewry’s (APSJ) Adopt a Bubbe and Warm Houses projects, which are funded by CJP’s Dnipro Kehillah Project (DKP), has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Tanya is also the wife of the DKP’s long-time director in Dnipro, Yan (Yakov Yisroel) Sidelkovsky. Tanya works in partnership with Yan whenever we have a group from Boston visiting Dnipro, and she, like Yan, is much beloved by our DKP family.

Yan and Tanya are now living in Israel so that Tanya can receive medical treatment unavailable in Ukraine. Yan will return to Dnipro as needed for DKP related work

While some medical expenses are covered in Israel, the cost of living in Israel is significantly higher than in Ukraine. Renting an apartment near the hospital where Tanya receives treatment, food, transportation, etc., are far beyond what Yan and Tanya can afford on their DKP salaries, which are very reasonable for a couple living in Dnipro.

That is why we are asking you to consider contributing to a fund to help Yan and Tanya.

If you choose to contribute, we ask that you donate by October 25, so that we can bring the money to Yan and Tanya in November when some of us will be in Dnipro. You can also send a check made out to Ery Magasanik, who will wire the funds directly to Yan and Tanya in Israel. Ery's mailing address is 39 Eliot Hill Rd., Natick, MA 01760.

Please pass this message along to anyone you know who has had the privilege of having met Yan and Tanya — either in Boston or in Dnipro — and experienced their love for klal  yisrael and yiddishkeit, their kindness, and extraordinary strength of spirit and faith.

And of course, write us with any questions or concerns.

With much gratitude,

Betsy Hecker, Chair, DKP
Marlene Bohn, Vice Chair, DKP
Barbara Gaffin, Director, DKP
Debbie Kardon,  Executive Director, APSJ
Judy Patkin, Associate Director, APSJ
Ery Magasanik, Past Chair, DKP
Beth Moskowitz, Past Chair, DKP

P.S. If it is your custom, please make a meshebayrach (blessing for healing) for Tanya Chaya bat Batya.
