Yamini's Kidney Transplant & Fight Against Lupus Nephritis

I, Harika Koduri am reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a plea for help for my beloved sister, Yamini Koduri. At the tender age of 15, she was diagnosed with lupus nephritis, a chronic autoimmune disease that has relentlessly attacked her kidneys. Despite the immense challenges, she has shown remarkable courage and determination to live a full and meaningful life.

For seven long years, Yamini has battled this condition with incredible strength to further her education and achieve her dreams. Just six months ago, she took a brave step and moved from India to the United States to pursue a master’s degree in business analytics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), MA.This was a milestone she had worked tirelessly to achieve and it was the start of a new and exciting chapter in her life. During her first semester finals is when she started feeling unwell and despite that she strived hard without giving up and scored a GPA of 4 .

Tragically, her dreams were shattered when her health took a drastic turn. She ended up being hospitalized and upon a kidney biopsy it was discovered that both her kidneys have suffered irreversible damage due to Lupus. Yamini now requires dialysis three times a week just to stay alive, and her doctors have advised that a kidney transplant is her only hope for survival and a better quality of life. Her lupus is now active, significantly increasing the risk of other organs being affected. Intensive treatment and medication are required to control the condition.

The cost of her medical care is staggering. Dialysis treatments, hospitalization, and the impending transplant surgery, along with the necessary medications to treat her lupus and post-operative care, have created an insurmountable financial burden. As an international student, Yamini has very limited insurance coverage, and the out-of-pocket expenses are overwhelming.
