Chelsea's Medical Journey

Hi everyone!
***UPDATE***
We had a long 2 days this week at the Mississauga-Oakville Veterinary Hospital.

Chelsea met with a Cardiologist and had an ECG done. The ECG showed that Chelsea has a large blood clot in her Pulmonary Artery, they can not fully rule out that it is not a tumor at this time, but it is less likely. This blockage is obstructing her blood flow to her lungs causing her to have fainting events when she is excited.

Blood clots tend to form do to underlying diseases. Chelsea has a pituitary tumor, and proteinuria (protein loss through her urine), proteinuria can cause blood clots due to loss of antithrombin III.

Chelsea has been put on a blood thinner that will prevent further clots, and we hope that her body will be able to dissolve the current clot. She has also been put on medication to help with her proteinuria.

After meeting with the Cardiologist, Chelsea met with a internal medicine specialist where they did thorough ultrasounds. This indicated 2 things, enlarged adrenal glands, and nodules on her spleen.

Chelsea went back to internal medicine yesterday to have a low-dose dexamethasone suppression test, taking 8 hours. All of her symptoms at the moment are pointing to Cushing Disease, with can be managed with medication. We are currently awaiting results.

We take Chelsea back to the clinic in a month for another ECG to see is the blood clot has shrunk, until then, we have been told that she is currently at risk for developing heart failure, and sudden death if the clot continues to grow, or dislodges into her lungs.

***UPDATE#2***

Chelsea has now been diagnosed with Cushings Disease. It's a manageable disease with medication, it will put her at risk for further blood clots and developing Addisons disease. Ultimately she will need to be monitored throughout the next year, and adjust her medication and blood thinner accordingly.

We are so happy and thankful for all the care she has received, and we are hopeful that she will recover from this, and live a somewhat normal life with this disease

We wanted to thank everyone who has been so supportive during this difficult time <3

The last few weeks Chelsea has been very unwell. With what started with what we thought was just a UTI, has turned into any pet owners nightmare.

Chelsea began having trouble breathing, and began having seizures everyday.

With further investigation with a Neurologist, they discovered a Pituitary Tumor by doing an MRI and a spinal tap. They also discovered she had a heart murmur.

After doing some more blood tests and getting a clean urine sample there was abnormalities, which indicated she is lacking in protein. This indicates there could be issues in her adrenal glands.

Next steps for Chelsea is a visit to a specialty hospital in Mississauga on September 18th to see a Cardiologist, and a Internal Medicine Specialist.

As you can imagine, this have become quite financially expensive.

We will do anything and everything we can to help our girl get back to her normal self! Any support would be helpful ❤️
