Yale 9/11 Memorial Relay
On the 25th anniversary of September 11, members of the Yale community will run continuously from Yale to Ground Zero, carrying an American flag and the names of the Yalies killed in the attacks. The relay is intended to bring the Yale community together in a collective act of remembrance while raising funds for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
Beginning before dawn at Yale’s World War I Memorial, runners will travel approximately 90 miles through coastal Connecticut, Westchester Country, the Bronx, and Manhattan before finishing at the World Trade Center in the Financial District. The relay has three aims: to commemorate those killed on September 11 and those who later died from related illnesses; to honor the courage, service, and sacrifice shown that day and in the years that followed; and to turn remembrance into service by raising funds for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
That work takes on particular importance on the 25th anniversary. Most current college students are too young to remember September 11 firsthand, yet we have grown up in a country and world profoundly shaped by it. The Memorial & Museum preserves the stories of those who were lost and the history of the attacks so that, as living memory recedes, their significance is not forgotten.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Every donation will go directly to supporting its mission of commemoration, preservation, and education.
