Yahia's battle for basic human necessities

Donation protected

On the 7th of January, 2020, my father Yahia's life changed .

On this day, my father felt unwell and took himself to the hospital where he was told he was fine and there was nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, 4 hours later he suffered a massive stroke due to a blood clot in the brain.

My father underwent brain surgery to have the blood clot removed. He spent weeks in intensive care. Due to this stroke, Yahia is now paralyzed on his right side and his speech is severely affected.

Right after intensive care, he entered a brain injury rehab centre for COVID-19 to hit. Not only did it put him more at risk but it separated us from not being able to see or speak  him on the phone. We weren’t able to visit and take any essentials due to the pandemic. This took a drastic effect on his rehabilitation.

My father was finally able to come home on the 3rd of August, 2020. Having him near us after not being able to see him for half a year was an amazing feeling but knowing he is unable to walk and has no direct access to washing facilities or plumbed toilet facilities is taking another toll on my mother and I as well as himself.

We are currently only able to wash him using a bowl and towels and he is currently using a commode which is situated in our downstairs dining room where he sleeps.

The local council have said that it will take a minimum of 9 months but probably longer for a wet room and stair lift to be fitted.

The other option is for us to pay for these facilities ourselves which we cannot afford estimated at a minimum of £15,000. We have been waiting but I cannot see my father suffer any more than he already has. My dad was an extremely fit man who took care of his physical health. Him having to resort to being cleaned using a bowl and not having the privacy and dignity he deserves is taking a huge toll us on.

A close friend of mine brought the idea to me that we should start a GoFundMe page in hopes that family and friends and people from around would kindly help us get the stairlift and wet room fitted ourselves instead of waiting about a year for the council to maybe come and fit one in. Facing this problem during a pandemic hasn’t made it any easier for my father or us.

We deeply and greatly appreciate anything that you can help with and we pray that God repays you in the best way possible. The way you have tried to ease us of pain with your generous donation will never be forgotten and reminds us of the humanity that still remains in this world. Once again thank you for visiting the page and taking the time to even read this! ❤️
