SUPPORTING MOTHERS PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY AFTER BIRTH
A newly delivered mother desperately needs her rest and to be looked after in the immediate post-natal period. Hospitals are discharging woman 6 – 12 hours after birth!! If a young mother is lucky enough to have a good support system, caring family and friends, then she might manage to rest up sufficiently and she will be able to resume her duties in time with good health and good cheer.
However more often than not, the support system is not there, or is insufficient. The new grandparents might live out of town or are just otherwise occupied.
YEARLY YAD LA’EM LOOKS AFTER 400+ OF OUR NW MUMS!!
YEARLY YAD LA’EM PROVIDES:
· Bris Support
· 400 Breakfasts
· 900 hours cleaning help
· 100 night nurses
· 450 hours helpline
· Hundreds of suppers
· Breastfeeding support
· 5 informative coffee mornings
· 400+ items in the gemach
· 10’s of tea-time volunteers
· Music and movement groups
There is a network of about 50 trained volunteers who give freely of their time to YAD LA’EM, but many of the services provided involve costs which we have to raise from donations.

Testimonials:
‘You are amazing! I didn’t think I’d need half of what you have very kindly offered and I would’t be sane if you didn’t’
‘You’re kindness has been incredible. More than words can say.’
‘Thank you so much for helping us throughout the early days following the birth of our lovely ‘R’. You really showed you care by calling up to follow up that things were ok – and they were thanks to your lovely chesed organisation’
‘Thank you for all of the support via your wonderful ‘Yad La’em’ organisation. Our gorgeous little princess was born during the summer holidays and just before a bereavement in the family – so I was not able to make use of the usual support network of friends and family in the way which I otherwise would have. Your help with meals and provision of extra household help was such an incredible blessing whilst I recovered from birth’
‘It’s the most incredible organisation ever! I had my baby here and didn’t have any family here. A complete stranger (Renee) came to my house and brought me a breakfast and sent me a cleaner and spoke to my husband about planning a Bris and brought me something for the Sholom Zochor, and she was just there for me all the time, calling to see how I am or if I needed anything. The first day she came to my house I just burst into tears when she left, I was so overwhelmed with gratefulness that someone to didn’t know me could be so generous and caring.’
May we always be able to help each other and support each other in good circumstances
