Studying in Ghana

Hello, my name is Qwai-zia Pennix. I am a first generation college and a recipient of the Odyssey Scholarship, which is a merit based scholarship for high achieving students in need of significant financial assistance at Elon University. My major is Human Services with minors in Criminal Justice and Political Science. I am also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. I am raising money to help fund my journey on my study abroad trip to Ghana, Africa. As students we are required to complete 80 hours of experiential service  learning and studying abroad will allow me to fulfill these this requirement for graduation.  This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, as a low-income student, going to college was a dream that I've had since a young child. Now I have been blessed with the opportunity  to further my education in a totally different country and culture. This is a dream come true for me and I am asking for help to make this dream possible. While in Ghana, I will be studying at the university of Ghana from January until May 2020, I plan to take classes that cater to my field of interest and take an international internship. My main goals for this educational journey is to be able to gain a deeper understanding of the world and become more culturally aware of individuals around me. The money will be used to help cover living expenses, meals, plane expenses, travel, and educational materials. This will help ensure that I am able to sustain myself abroad over the course of 4 months. I will be departing from the US January 23rd and returning May 25th.  I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and extremely thankful to those who choose to give.
