State Games/Junior Olympics
We are fundraising on behalf of our Redwood City Wicked 12U girls softball all-star tournament team. Our Wicked 12U team is comprised of girls who played in our Redwood City Girls Softball League (RCGSL) spring rec season, and as a result of their level of play, commitment and sportsmanship were selected to participate on our summer all-star tournament team. Our team has played in a series of tournaments beginning on Memorial Day weekend and culminating in the NorCal Amateur Softball Association (ASA) championships during the weekend of June 26-28. Our team compiled an impressive resume in tournament play leading up to the NorCal championships, reaching the championship games of their first two tournaments.
At the NorCal Championships, which featured over 25 teams from throughout the area, our Wicked team placed within the top 8. As a result of this performance, our Wicked 12U girls qualified for the California State Games to be held from July 17-19 in San Diego. This is clearly a tremendous accomplishment for our girls. The California State Games are a junior Olympics competition comprising a broad range of team and individual sports, and our Wicked 12U team will be the second Redwood City Wicked softball team to participate. However, as you might imagine, the cost of participating in the State Games is substantial. We have a team of 12 players, each of whom will be travelling with at least one parent, and we will have the usual travel expenses for lodging, meals and transportation. Furthermore, our team is comprised of local girls who were selected for all stars based on their rec season play and their commitment, ability and sportsmanship, and for many of our players’ families the cost of the trip could represent a significant hardship. We estimate the cost for one player to be approximately $900 or over $15,000 for the entire team!
