Hi Everyone, I am choosing to do a Go Fund Me Campaign to assist my sister who has an autistic son who is now 22 years old. His name is Sam and he lives in a group home in Massachusetts. At this point in his life he has many physical problems beyond the autism. Sam has never spoken but does understand many simple tasks. His mother is very devoted and continues to prepare specialized meals for him every week to help his digestion etc. Many children affected with autism develop food senitivites and intolerances that manifest as ulcerative colitis, nervous disorders, anxiety etc. Sam has both of these along with some pretty intense neurological issues affecting his walking. Sam has responded positively to some alternative therapies such as cranial sacral, hippo therapy as well as aquatic therapy. These therapies will not only help with his balance and neurological issues but also benefit his cardiovascular and overall health. He is now in a wheel chair and his prognosis is uncertain. What is needed for him are items that are not covered by insurance and are very costly such as special chairs, walkers, and medical appointments not covered by insurance. His parents are hard working just like any other average family and do not have the disposable income needed to acquire these things to assist Sam's quality of life. He is seeing a neurologist that is $200.00 an hour and the family pays out of pocket since it is not covered but necessary to help lessen his decline. A special bed is needed as well. Doctors have suggested alternative aids to help with balance such as horse back riding, and swimming. These lessons will improve his quality of life but are costly to the family.
