More details will be down below: My coworker and life-long friend Charles Benfield was rushed to the emergency room Saturday afternoon. Within hours of arriving, the doctors decided on surgery to put a plate into his shoulder; Charles has suffered a compound fracture to his collarbone from a violent dog attack. He also has defensive wounds on both hands from fighting off the attack, and as of now (5/21/23) Charles is still in the hospital recovering, receiving antibiotics. We are hoping he will be released on Monday (5/22/23), but with the severity of his injuries he will be staying with his parents, as he will need assistance for some time, and we are unsure when he will be able to return to work. The funds we are hoping to raise will go directly to Charles Benfield, to help cover as much of the medical bills as possible.
Charles Benfield is thirty-one years old, born in Louisiana and relies on his Christian faith to get him through tough times like this, and he is thankful that he survived. The mastiff pinned him to the ground and bit onto his right shoulder. Within a matter of seconds, the dog snapped his collar bone. Charles was able to get the dog to release its grip, but he then bit into his left-hand several times, leaving eight major puncture wounds. Eventually, a group was able to subdue the dog and rush Charles to East Jefferson Hospital. I add these details because simply saying "Charles was attacked by a dog" does not convey the physical damage he has suffered, below will be a picture from my visit with him. I ask that you pray for my friend and please help contribute so that the only thing Charlie has to worry about is the physical burden he has, and not also suffer the financial burden he will be released with.
