June 2nd my mom was admitted to Latimer County General Hospital (Wilburton, OK) where they discovered a blood clot from her hip to her knee, not somewhere in that area...the length of that area. She was also dehydrated, had high white blood cell count, and extremely low potassium. They started her on blood thinners, antibiotics, and potassium. The following Monday (June 8th) She was transferred to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Her hemoglobin count had continued to drop small amounts while her white blood count would drop and rise on a daily basis. Mercy started doing tests ASAP and by Tuesday night a nurse gave us the news of a neoplastic mass in moms uterine region. When asked what that meant, she told us, Cancer. The next day was a biopsy test and they put a filter in her vein with the blood clot so that as the blood thinners were working no pieces could go to her brain, heart, lungs or somewhere else to cause massive problems. Thursday was a surgery to put a stent in from her kidney to her bladder because the mass was pressing against the tube and her kidney couldn't drain. Friday the biopsy came back inconclusive so another was scheduled for Saturday. When they did the biopsy for a larger sample they discovered the mass was pressing against her appendix and causing it to be enflamed and possible infection so they removed it. During all of this mom's foot had turned red/purple/almost black from her ankle to her toes, with her big toe being the worst. We got the good news that the MRI showed no infection in her bone so they won't be amputating her foot/toes. Yay! Some good news. When the larger sampled biopsy came back they confirmed Stage 3 Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer. After being declined by OU Medical Center for her mass being to large making her not a candidate for them Mercy did one round of Chemotherapy June 29th. Today, July 1st, they are now talking about sending her home when she hasn't been out of bed in 4 weeks. They are telling us that now that they have treated her for her cancer it is a "pre-existing" problem and no other hospitals will treat her. They have set up radiation treatments for Monday-Friday for six weeks and her next round of chemo isn't until the 21st.
