Help Madison Fight for Recovery: Support Her Journey to Healing

My beloved niece, Madison, a bright and vibrant 12-year-old (soon to be 13 in March), has been hospitalized while battling a severe eating disorder for the past three and a half months. She was admitted to Lurie’s Children's Hospital in November, and while the medical staff has provided stabilization, her condition has unfortunately deteriorated. Lurie's, while a wonderful facility, is not equipped to provide the long-term, specialized care Madison desperately needs. Her malnourished brain, which should be showing signs of recovery, is instead struggling. She relies solely on a feeding tube for nutrition and requires constant one-on-one care due to a persistent fight-or-flight response.

Finding the right treatment for Madison has been an incredibly challenging journey. Her age, the severity of her condition (requiring hospitalization and forced tube feedings), and the need for 24/7 specialized care have significantly limited our options. Many facilities simply aren't equipped to handle a case as complex as Madison's. After an exhaustive search, we have finally found a specialized hospital program in Texas that can provide the comprehensive care she needs to heal. This program is equipped to handle her complex healthcare, including the feeding tube, her mental health condition, and the intensive therapy she requires. She will be flown to the facility by medevac in the next week or two.

This is where we need your help. While we are filled with hope that this program will be the turning point in Madison's recovery, the financial burden on my sister's family is immense. They are facing significant costs, including:

* Medical Expenses: The past and future hospital bills for the treatment Madison requires will create substantial medical bills.

* Travel Costs: Traveling to and from Texas for Madison's treatment will be a significant expense.

* Housing Costs: To be by Madison's side during this crucial time, one parent will be relocating to Texas temporarily, incurring housing costs.

* Lost Income: One parent will be staying with Madison in Texas, while the other stays in Illinois to work and stay with their older daughter.

* Ongoing Care: Even after discharge, Madison will require ongoing therapy and support, which will also add to the financial strain.
