RICK ALANA - Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On November 12th of 2020 my dad, Rick Alana, was hospitalized after testing positive for Covid-19. After a week and a half of being alone, struggling to keep his hopes up with limited communication from loved ones, he messaged us- "They say I am getting better, it's just going to be a little while longer." Just 7 days later, he was in ICU, on a ventilator, in an induced coma, with the staff at McLaren Hospital doing everything possible to keep him alive. We knew the outlook was not good. We experienced a long stretch of time filled with fears of losing him and hours of in-depth conversations with doctors about all of the different ways Covid was trying to take him down, strategizing what the next life-saving move would be. We were called three different times in the night and told to stand by, because he would likely not pull through. On the third time, Christmas night, we rushed up to say our goodbyes. Its now May, and with the help of unending prayers from family and friends, the care and knowledge of the ICU staff, and my dad's unwavering determination to survive, it’s nothing short of a miracle that he finally has returned home. This fight has been the longest, toughest battle of his life.
But, his fight is not over. After being hospitalized for such a long period of time, he has to learn how to walk again, and is fighting to gain muscle strength to care for himself, while adapting to being home in a completely different physical state than when he was taken to the hospital last November. It's all a huge transition for him and our family.
We are setting up this fund-raiser to ask for help with costs that seem to have all come upon us at once for things we would have never thought necessary for my dad 6 months ago. Portable oxygen tanks for when he has to travel by car, a wheelchair ramp, handrails, a life alert medical device, and many other home modifications and accommodations that need to be made for him to get around safely, and the endless bills that have piled up while he was gone.
Our family is doing what we can to give him the help he needs and to get him back to a stable living environment, and we are asking for YOUR help so that we can make this happen as quickly as possible. We will be truly grateful for any donation amount, big or small.
With heartfelt gratitude for your continued love and support,
The family of Rick Alana
