Hello! Welcome to the GoFundMe Page for Kamileonne Has Reached Abditory! Thank you for your interest in the film!
INTRO:
This year I was given the opportunity to produce a short film for my second year at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. Through this film, I wanted to be able to tell a story about a black woman without conforming to the stereotypes attached to black women in cinema. I will be working with a crew of talented and passionate film students here in Montréal, Quebec!
SYNOPSIS:
Kamileonne Has Reached Abditory tells the story of a young girl named Kamileonne, who has found a safe haven within her dreams in which she is crowned queen over sensual and dependant citizens. She resides in this abditory every night until she is continually confronted by her bleak and distastefully lacklustre reality.
Kamileonne Has Reached Abditory is an afro-surrealist short film exploring lucid dreaming and loneliness as Kamileonne explores the realms of the unreal and becomes addicted to a reality in which she is the most important person. As her life continues, Kami grows increasingly dissatisfied with her reality and craves to live forever in her dreams which pushes her to adopt detrimental mechanisms in order to stay longer within her dreams. Methods such as forcing sleep and consuming unhealthy amounts of cherries to induce vivid dreaming and ultimately ignoring her outside world and physical body.
WHY SHOULD YOU DONATE?
Creating this film has been a goal of mine due to it's relevant and close to home nature. Many people of colour, including myself, have grown up never seeing ourselves in mainstream or fiction films, and when we did, often times they were heavily based on prejudicial and stereotypical perceptions of what it meant to be a person of colour. Through Kamileonne Has Reached Abditory, I want to make a film with a completely black cast in which does not adhere to what media wants Black people to be.
Donating to this film will not only allow us to bring this film to life through building the set and also increasing to quality of the production of the costumes, props and environments within the set. Your support would take this film through all it's stages of production to the big screens!
