Travis Derek was working part time in retirement and everything seemed to be going great and suddenly, unexpectly, Travis became sick. Travis thought it was just the flu; but, after several days his condition deteriorated and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. After a few days in the hospital it was discovered Travis has Prostate Cancer.
Doctors are trying to keep the cancer from spreading from the lymph nodes. Continuing treatments and related medical procedures and treatments cause an ever growing financial burden. Travis is semi-retired on fixed income. Travis has had to continue to work his part time job even while sick with prostate cancer. He can only work about 12 hours a week because he becomes very tired.
In addition Travis had to have oral surgery to remove more teeth. Four were just removed within the past month. Prior to that three more teeth were removed. Now eating is more difficult for Travis. He needs implants done since there are so few teeth left to attach any kind of dental appliance to. Because of Travis' situation, it has been estimated that it will cost $1000 per tooth to do dental implants. Again, Travis needs the teeth replaced with implants because Travis has a very difficult time chewing food which causes Travis to almost choke. All this, both the ongoing cancer treatments and follow up and the dental issues make a big financial burden ahead. Travis has some health insurance; but, it does not pay all. Medical expenses so far have a total of more than $40,000. Doctors want Travis to have a good dental condition since he will likely need chemotherapy in the future. Currently he is undergoing hormore therapy to fight the cancer. But, that alone won't stop the cancer doctors say. Travis wants to continue his volunteer work and needs to be healthy enough to continue that. Travis has helped with a mobile volunteer network which helps in emergency situations. He has an avid interest and college education in meteorology. He is a severe weather spotter for the National Weather Service, He has also been active in severe weather research projects. He loves nature and science. Travis needs your help. All proceeds from this fund raiser will be used for Travis' medical and dental expenses.
