Help Victor Cover Basic Living Expenses in His Fight Against Chronic Kidney Failure (Stage 5)

I have created this page on behalf of my incredibly resilient, friendly, and hardworking nephew, Victor A. Nuñez. Victor is in need of a kidney transplant which is expected to take place sometime in 2026 or early 2027. The funds raised will help to cover his monthly living expenses before, during, and after the kidney transplant.

Unfortunately, Victor has suffered a long and critical clinical condition that began in 2012 with serious symptoms due to kidney failure–this happens when the kidneys cannot clean the blood or balance the body's fluids, salts, and minerals and the body waste accumulates, causing the person to feel ill–. At the time he was unaware of what was happening to him, and after trying to medically control the early stages of the disease for two years, the prescribed treatment was unsuccessful, and it progressed.

Then, in September 2014, he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Failure (CKD), stage 5 (a.k.a End-Stage Kidney Disease). He has been undergoing rigorous treatment of hemodialysis three times a week, each session lasting almost 5 hours, in addition to multiple medical tests necessary to survive this disease.

As you can imagine, his mental and emotional health has greatly taken a toll by this challenging situation that he has had to endure for more than a decade, and with very limited financial resources to support himself.

Although Victor has been diligent and resilient for 14 years in his fight against this disease, his attempts to receive a kidney transplant have not yet been successful. However, he has been able to receive medical assistance from the public health system in Chile, where he currently resides, to cover major medical expenses such as dialysis, lab tests, medical check-ups, and pre-transplant surgeries required in order to be placed on the waiting list for his kidney transplant this year.

Currently, Victor is recovering at home, for the next 6 months from a recent surgery, nephrectomy that, sadly, required his right kidney to be removed due to carcinoma, and he will be required follow-up tests to ensure that it does not recur or spread to other body organs. He is in urgent need of medical studies to meet all the pre-medical requirements for the kidney transplant surgery as soon as possible.

In addition to all the implications on his medical case, he has not had sufficient funds, as a result of not being able to maintain a full-time job due to his permanent dialysis treatment and other requirements such as medical tests and studies that, unfortunately, are not covered by the Chilean public health system.

Because his diagnosis is complex due to the terminal stage 5 kidney failure, his financial situation has become overly stressful and a daily challenge for him. Before enduring his complicated, and exhausting health situation, Victor previously worked as a Tanker Vessel Ship Agent for many years, a job that he enjoyed, but his illness has prevented him from working regularly since his initial diagnosis.

Victor is currently unemployed and under the care and support of his mother, who finds it extremely difficult to cover all of their basic living expenses during this long period of his illness.

Without being able to hold a job, his financial burden has become too heavy to cover the most important expenditures:

We project that Victor will need financial assistance for living necessities, and for other ongoing medical costs, for the next 12-18 months to continue his fight against this terrible disease.

Ayuda a Victor para cubrir sus gastos básicos en su lucha contra la enfermedad de falla renal crónica, etapa 5

En nombre de mi sobrino, Victor A. Núñez, he creado esta página para recaudar fondos que ayuden a cubrir sus gastos básicos mensuales para poder mantenerse antes, durante, y después del trasplante de riñón que esperemos se lleve a cabo durante este año 2026 o a principios del 2027.

Victor ha padecido un cuadro clínico, crítico, que comenzó en el 2012 con síntomas serios por causa de enfermedad renal crónica–esto ocurre cuando los riñones no pueden limpiar la sangre ni equilibrar los líquidos, sales y minerales del cuerpo y los desechos se acumulan, lo que provoca que la persona se sienta enferma–. En ese momento él desconocía lo que padecía, y después de intentar controlar médicamente las etapas tempranas de la enfermedad, no resultó, y ésta avanzó.

En septiembre del 2014 se le diagnosticó la enfermedad renal crónica (ERC), etapa 5. Desde entonces ha estado sometido a un tratamiento riguroso de hemodiálisis tres veces a la semana que dura casi 5 horas por sesión, además de hacerse una serie de exámenes médicos necesarios para poder sobrevivir a esta enfermedad.

Además, su estado mental y emocional, también han sido seriamente afectados por esta retante situación que le ha tocado enfrentar por más de una década, y con escasos recursos económicos para mantenerse.

Aunque Victor ha sido diligente y resiliente por 14 años en su lucha contra esta enfermedad, sus intentos para recibir el trasplante de riñón aún no le ha sido posible. Sin embargo, él ha logrado recibir ayuda del sistema de salud pública, en Chile, para cubrir gastos médicos mayores como: la diálisis, exámenes de laboratorio, consultas de control médico, y cirugías requeridas para poder entrar este año en lista de espera para su trasplante de riñón.

Actualmente, Victor se encuentra en casa recuperandose por 6 meses, de una cirugía reciente (nefrectomía radical) que requirió extraerle su riñón derecho por causa de un carcinoma, y debe realizarse una variedad de exámenes de control para asegurar que no se reproduzca o se desplace a otros órganos del cuerpo. También debe hacerse otros estudios médicos urgentes y obligatorios para cumplir con todos los requisitos preoperatorios para poder realizarse el trasplante de riñón lo más pronto posible.

Además de todas las implicaciones en su caso médico, también, ha carecido de recursos económicos a consecuencia de no poder mantener un buen empleo a tiempo completo por el tratamiento de diálisis continuo y otras complicaciones médicas como lo son exámenes y estudios médicos obligatorios que no son costeados por el sistema de salud pública.

Debido a que su diagnóstico es muy complejo por el estado avanzado del fallo renal (etapa 5) que padece, su estresante situación financiera se ha convertido diariamente en un gran reto. Antes de sobrellevar esta larga, complicada y extenuante situación de salud, Víctor se desempeñó como Agente Naviero, un trabajo que realizaba con gusto y dedicación, pero por su enfermedad no pudo continuar haciéndolo y no le ha sido posible tener un empleo estable desde el comienzo de su diagnóstico.

Actualmente Victor se encuentra sin un empleo fijo y bajo el cuidado y sostén de su madre a quien se le hace imposible cubrir todos los gastos básicos durante este largo proceso de su enfermedad.

Sin poder mantener un empleo estable, la carga económica se ha hecho demasiado pesada para suplir sus gastos más importantes:

Se estima que Victor necesitará ayuda económica para sus necesidades básicas, y para otros insumos médicos, de un año a 18 meses, para continuar su lucha en contra de esta terrible enfermedad.
