Hi, my name is Marivic Yabut (Vicky Santos), the daughter of Nina Ma C Yabut and +Virgilio K Yabut.
I am creating this GoFundMe account to help raise funds for the medical bills for my mother, Nina Ma C Yabut, who has been in the ICU for almost a month now.
Let me give you a short background on my mom’s health journey during the last 2 years.
Both my parents got struck by COVID during its peak in 2021. Sad to say, my dad did not make it but my mom did after battling it for a month. She was totally devastated when we told her about the passing of my dad. My dad was her life. She depended on him on everything, day in and day out.
Fast forward to December 24, 2022, Christmas Eve. My brother called me and said that they were going to take my mom to the ER because she doesn’t look good though she wasn’t complaining of anything. At the ER, when I was video calling them, the doctor said it looks like she was having a stroke. That did not even entered my mind. And true enough, after doing a CT Scan, my mom had multiple strokes. Miraculously, my mom recovered after a week and was discharged on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2022. Though my mom was discharged, she was never the same, pre-stroke. She cannot open her eyes that long, she would only respond to you with either a yes or no, she’d always be sleeping, plus more.
Then after a little over a month, February 19, 2023, my mom was rushed to the ER again with the same problem plus other underlying health problems including kidney failure, bedsore, to name a few. Mama was transferred from the ER to the ICU that same day. Her doctor already told us to expect the worst. I flew out from San Francisco, California to the Philippines the very next day praying for mama to wait for me. Upon arrival, I went straight to the hospital to be with her. And ever since my arrival, I’ve been in the hospital every single day just to be with her.
Miraculously, mama’s health started to improve. Her kidney looks good and doesn’t need to do dialysis. They finally turned off the ventilator yesterday and she is breathing mostly on her own with a little help from the oxygen. Her heart rate went up to the 90s compared to some other days where it went as low as in the 30s.
The Philippines is one of the countries that has the best doctors and nurses in the world. The problem is, there is a saying here, “mahirap magka sakit sa Pinas” - it’s so hard to get sick in the Philippines. You need to have a lot of money for you to get better.
As of this writing, my mom is still in the ICU and her medical bills is more than Php2,000,000 already with a conversion of $1 to Php54. The government health insurance only covers less than Php100,000. Because of that, I am knocking on your kind hearts for any financial help you can give to our family. If you have extra money to spare, it doesn’t matter how big or small, me and my brother would greatly appreciate it.
We understand if you cannot give but instead would like to ask for your continued prayers for Mama. Thank you and God Bless us all.
