My name is Alexis and my dog, Larry, means the world to me and my family. He is the best dog and loves playing, snacking, and lounging around. 

Larry got very sick on Tuesday. We monitored him all day, but he was throwing up everything he ate and drank. Around 2am on Wednesday, we took him to the ER because he threw up again, started breathing weird, and could not get comfortable. 

They took an X-ray right away and my worst fear was true: he had an obstruction. He was admitted and received IV fluids overnight. The internist team did an ultrasound on Wednesday morning and confirmed there was an obstruction. In addition, he had to have a chest X-ray as they were worried he may have aspiration pneumonia. This was the case and before they were able to give him anesthesia for surgery, they had to start giving him antibiotics. 

Wednesday afternoon, he had surgery. It was best case scenario - they were able to remove the obstruction from his stomach and did not have to touch his intestines (which they originally thought they would have to do). His intestines are bruised, but will heal. 

It turns out that he accidentally ate some St. Paddy’s Day Garland when we were taking holiday pictures. He was given treats during the photo shoot and they got mixed in with the garland. 

He stayed at the hospital Wednesday and Thursday night so that he could continue being monitored. 

Today (Friday) we were able to pick him up to take him home! He’ll be on antibiotics for 4 weeks to treat the pneumonia. He is also very wobbly and not walking well, which is a concern. 

We are so so happy to have our boy back home with us! He is still very lethargic and he is not back to his goofy self, but we’re confident he’ll start feeling better soon. 

Unfortunately, this was a very costly and unexpected expense and why we are asking for help. We understand that not everyone can donate and that is okay! You can help by simply sharing our story and continuing to pray for Larry to have smooth and quick recovery.

The total cost for Larry’s hospital stay, X-rays, surgery, etc. came to (will provide a copy of the bill below): $8,640.80

Larry also had two follow-up visits already and the total cost for those was: $800.20

Larry will also need to get a follow-up chest X-ray, blood work, and have a follow-up with a neurologist to make sure he is recovering properly and that will be an additional: $750

I am SO thankful for everyone that has been there for us during these past few days. It’s been a very traumatic experience for all of us. We are so happy that Larry is doing okay and happy to have him home where he belongs!
