Help Ashley Study Abroad in Italy

Hello, my name is Ashley and I am 15 years old.

This year, I was granted the opportunity to apply for and attend a summer program in Italy with CIEE. Unfortunately, my mother (a single mom) makes a low income, and we need help to be able to afford the flights and tuition. Most of my family also doesn’t make much money. I’ve been saving for a couple months and will work towards more fundraising methods.

It has been my dream to be able to go to Italy and especially now that I am offered to study Italian language and culture for 4 weeks. I’ve been working towards this opportunity since November and have tried my best every step of the way.

In school, I try my best for good grades and work my hardest towards honor roll. I’m involved in a few extracurriculars that I am so grateful to be apart of. I’m in a dance club, cheerleading, and a club that helps support women with fundraisers.

Due to not having much money, my brother informed me that if I don’t have enough money, then I won’t be able to attend the summer program. This opportunity means the world to me and it’s such a pain to have the lack of money get in the way of my capabilities, especially after working so hard to accomplish this.

Este año, tuve la oportunidad de postularme y asistir a un programa de verano en Italia con CIEE. Desafortunadamente, mi madre (una madre soltera) tiene bajos ingresos y necesitamos ayuda para poder pagar los vuelos y la matrícula. La mayor parte de mi familia tampoco gana mucho dinero. He estado ahorrando durante un par de meses y trabajaré para encontrar más métodos de recaudación de fondos.

Ha sido mi sueño poder ir a Italia y sobre todo ahora que me ofrecen estudiar lengua y cultura italiana durante 4 semanas. He estado trabajando para lograr esta oportunidad desde noviembre y he hecho lo mejor que pude en cada paso del camino.

En la escuela, hago lo mejor que puedo para obtener buenas calificaciones y trabajo lo mejor que puedo para lograr el cuadro de honor. Estoy involucrado en algunas actividades extracurriculares de las que estoy muy agradecido de ser parte. Estoy en un club de baile, de porristas y en un club que ayuda a apoyar a las mujeres con eventos para recaudar fondos.

Debido a que no tengo mucho dinero, mi hermano me informó que si no tengo suficiente dinero, no podré asistir al programa de verano. Esta oportunidad significa mucho para mí y es muy doloroso que la falta de dinero se interponga en mis capacidades, especialmente después de trabajar tan duro para lograrlo.
