We feel embarrassed to ask for help in this way, as we have always managed to struggle through any difficulties we came up against in the past. That being said, I lost my job recently due to the firm I worked for needing to lay people off. We are still able to pay all our household bills (barely), but it has created an extreme financial and emotional hardship.
My husband is in terrible pain on a daily basis from a problem that requires him to have a surgery involving him having his urethra sliced open all the way to remove a stricture of his urethra which is preventing him from going to the bathroom. It is his 3rd operation and we still owe $6,000 in medical bills from the past surgery. I currently d not have medical insurance myself at the moment because of the loss of my employment and my husband cannot get any form of insurance as we could not complete his change of status from a UK citizen to a U.S. citizen. We were doing this when we were unfortunately struck by financial difficulties 4 years ago, which lead to my husband being caught in a limbo status of non-residency. After seeking legal advice, we found that he is perfectly fine to remain here in the U.S. with me, but cannot return to the UK for the surgery as he would receive a 10-year BAN to return to the U.S. due to his incomplete transfer of citizenship. He may remain here, but is not allowed to work or look for work until he receives his green card and work visa. Nor is he allowed any medical insurance since he does not have a SSN. We need approximately $12,000 to obtain a work visa and start the change of residency.
All in all this is an extremely frustrating and difficult time for us and with attorney's fees, past and future medical bills and the upcoming surgery, we are in a situation that requires approximately $25,000. It breaks my heart to hear my husband struggle each day to use the restroom and trying not to worry me, and it is our hope that you can find it in your heart to donate just a small amount towards our cause, as any form of help would be
