Beat the Beast!
Donation protected
Hello and thank you for viewing my project! My name is Barbara Moody. I love sports and I love people. Originally, it was my plan to organize a triathalon in my community of Walla Walla, WA., in order to raise funds for a local charity. However, I haven't been able to find a venue for the swimming leg of the triathalon. It is a personal goal for me to do this triathalon. I just turned 60 so I wanted to do a triathalon that incorporated that into the distances. That's why the swim is 600 meters, the bike distance is 60 kilometers, and the run is 6 kilometers. So, I'm calling it "The Beast!". I'll be doing it alone, rather than with a group, because I really had my heart set on doing these particular distances. I don't want to do it just for myself, however, I'd like to help people. In fact, one of the hardest things for me was to choose a single charity to contribute to. There are many that have my heart, so I couldn't choose just one. I finally decided on 3 charities.
The first one is the Christian Aid Center. They feed and house homeless people. They are entirely non-profit and do a fabulous work in our community. I have worked with them as a volunteer and believe them to be an important member of our community
The second group is the Children's Home Society. I think that children should be safe. This is dear to my heart. This is a group that helps to prevent child abuse by giving parents a safe place to take their children and classes on parenting, etc. They are also working on helping the teenagers in our community that find themselves homeless because home is no longer a safe place.
The third one is Good Samaritan Ministries. This is a free counseling service for anyone. We have a real mental health problem in our community that hasn't really been addressed yet. Counselling is expensive and many can't afford it. GSM counts on donations to keep them operating. They have helped me personally, so I know what a difference they can make in people's lives.
Just to be clear, I'm not a super athlete or anything. I'm just an ordinary person who happens to like being active. Good health is so important to happiness, so I like to encourage others, and myself to stay active. I'm not going to break any records or anything, but I will complete the course.
I hope you find it in your heart to contribute to these 3 very deserving causes! Thank you!!
