Friends as you know our good friend David Larsen is nearing the end of his battle with Cancer and his time with us in this world is nearing its final curtain.
David has been an important member of many CenterPoint productions giving his beautiful talents and time to paint our stage with his light, making our shows come alive. CenterPoint has become and important place to David. More than that he really loves the many friends he has made at CenterPoint. There will be a great void when he is no longer with us and he will be terribly missed.
As a way to show our appreaction to Dave for giving of his artistry, his time, his skills, his freindship and his heart, we would like to honor Dave with a specail memorial.
All good theaters have a “ghost light." A ghost light is typically a free standing single light placed downstage center nightly after a show to keep the stage safe, or as theater superstitions suggest, to keep the ghosts that haunt each theater happy. Some even say it's there for the Ghosts of Artists who have passed to give them light to perform at night. So the idea came, what a great way to honor Dave by providing a "Ghost Light" in his name that would shine on our stage to keep our theater family safe and to invite Dave to watch over our stage when he’s not with us. A special plaque will be placed on it listing all the shows he has lit and designed at CPT.
We are hoping to do this rather soon as his health is quickly declining. This would mean a lot to David to have this gifted by the members of his CPT theater family. The hope is to present it to him with a small presentation during a dark night at CPT. We want this to be a surprise so please don't share this with him. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
** update - We've had an incredible response from all of you. What a tribute to an amazing person. We have raised more than enough for the Memorial Light and wanted to inform you all that a Scholarship Fund is being established in David's name that will be set up for Utah High School Students seeking a degree in Technical Theater, likely specifically to lighting design. All additional funds raised will be donated to this Scholarship. This Scholarship fund ensures that David's passion for theater will continue and it emulates his generosity in life that he has shared with so many.
