On November 6, 2015, Tom Palka was in a horrific motorcycle accident which was caused by an underinsured 90 year old driver who failed to yield the right of way and struck Tom.

His injuries included several broken ribs (several of which were broken in more than one place), a punctured lung, broken tibia and fibula bones in his left leg,  broken foot, failed kidneys, and a traumatic brain injury.

He has been taken off the ventilator but is still in ICU with a tracheotomy and remains on kidney dialysis until his kidneys start working on their own. Tom has had rib plating surgery to put his ribs back together and still needs to have surgery on his leg to put in pins and rods.

He will be in the hospital and in rehabilitation for an unknown amount of time. His brain injury could take at least 6 to 12 months or more to recover. 

Tom is self employed and is the main provider for his family. The underinsured driver that hit Tom had the minimum amount of insurance needed in the state of South Carolina,  therefore his automobile insurance policy will cover only a portion of the medical bills.

Tom is one of the nicest and most caring persons you could meet. He has never said no to anyone in need and has never expected anything in return for the help he has given others. 

I am Tom's sister Cathy. I put together this page to try and ease some of his family's financial stress so they can focus on helping him heal and fight his way back to them.
