Bane’s Remembrance
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Bane I just turned 1 in September. If you don’t me I just recently started my own TikTok sharing my awesome life and already have 12k supporters (@banethefrenchbulldog)! Unfortunately a couple days ago I was puking so my mom took me to the vet. They did some x rays and found out that I was born with a genetic deformation where my abdominal organs are in my chest. I was unaware I had this deformation since I’ve always been such a healthy boy and never needed x rays before. This deformation caused either my liver or esophagus to flip over my stomach (unsure exactly which one yet since we’re driving to the second hospital) causing a hole in my diaphragm which then caused a hernia. I need emergency surgery for both cases that costs more than my family can afford. My mom refuses to give up on me and took out a huge loan to be able to afford this surgery to give me another shot at a long life with my family and brother Jack. I would appreciate any help. My mom will update as we know more but please pray that my surgery goes smoothly.
Update: They wanted to monitor him overnight and do surgery in the morning but it is currently 12:30 am and he is doing a lot worse so they’re calling all the on call surgeons in and doing surgery now.
Update: The surgeon called at 4 am and he made it through surgery, they were worried cause most Frenchies decide to die when they even try to put them under anesthesia. He did have a hiatal hernia, his esophagus was going through the left side of his abdomen into his chest through the hole in his diaphragm. His spleen was attached to his stomach too and the vessels were completely torn and his spleen was dead so they took it out. They pulled his stomach back so it can’t go forward but his diaphragm was so far forward they can’t pull it back but hopefully overtime his lungs will push it back. The hole in his diaphragm also let his liver fall into his chest. The surgeon said this is the worst case they’ve ever seen. He could still regurgitate more in the next 24-48 hours without eating food which would mean he wouldn’t be able to eat again and we can’t fix it. We’ll have an idea today or through the morning what it’s looking like but he’s not in the clear yet. He’s being so strong.
Update: The vet called this afternoon he’s recovering well in the ICU. His body temperature was very low so they have him in a little warm area. His lungs now that they aren’t crammed with his other organs can fully open but this could cause fluid to go inside but so far they aren’t seeing that. He has to stay another night so they can monitor him.
Update: He’s home! He has been doing amazing at home, healing up nicely, and starting to play with his brother again! We still have to watch and take it easy as he’s not out of the clear yet.
11/3 Update: We had to head back to the ER due to him screaming in pain. They’re not sure exactly why he’s in pain so they gave him a shot of pain meds and sent him home with more pain meds. After this he woke up at 2 am throwing up all over the place. He’s now being monitored again and layering up more bills.
11/5 Update: Bane was still puking so we headed back to the ER. They did another exam and can’t rule anything out due to him still being alert, active, and no signs of him being uncomfortable/sick. They didn’t do scans but think he may have chronic GI issues that weren’t fully fixed from surgery and are putting him on a prescription diet. This diet costs about $15 a day which is going to add up quickly and we still appreciate all the donations.
11/7 Update: We were at the ER for 6 hours last night and unfortunately Bane's hernia has already came back. He is rapidly declining again and would need the exact same surgery plus more this time if we tried to get it to not come back a third time. He is only 1 so it could keep coming back for the rest of his life. He is constantly in so much pain unless he's on pain meds and another surgery would be so unfair especially if it just comes back again. There is nothing we can do for him anymore and have to say goodbye tonight. We raised more than we could have imagined for his ongoing bills and appreciate all the love and support we had during this whole journey. I don't understand why these things happen but I guess I never will. Bane knows how loved he was by all of you. Please keep Jack in your prayers as he will be grieving too.
