I am suffering from Kummel's Disease, a rare form of Avascular Necrosis. My spinal canal and vertebral elements are deteriorating at a rapid rate, following my previous surgical fusion of the L4 and L5 vertebrae. The fusion of my spinal vertebrae was in treatment of multiple injuries suffered in a tragic plane crash. The Avascular Necrosis and resulting nerve damage, has caused me to suffer frequent incontinence and created an increasing inability to concentrate. My short term memory is very limited. As the condition worsens, the nerve damage has migrated from my lumbar vertebrae to my thoracic vertebrae. I now have difficulty maintaining balance when I stand or walk. My heartbeat in now irregular and I frequently and momentarily stop breathing while sleeping at night. The spinal surgery which I will receive will include a newly designed spinal cord stimulator which will reduce my constant neuromuscular and dramatically increase the flow of fluids through my spinal column. Numerous nerve stimulating probes will be placed in locations to stimumate and stabilize my respiratory rate. This will decrease my risk of suffering a fatal respiratory anuerism or heart attack. Without this surgery, my life is very much at risk and virtually insure the early termination of my life. As desperate as my need is for these state of the art medical procedures, the out of pocket costs far exceed my limited income. Thus, I pray for the Grace of God and the kindness and compassion of others to bless me and Give Me Life.
