My name is Stefanie and my younger brother Matt has been dealt a life changing prognosis. Due to an infection that spread to his spinal cord my brother had to undergo emergency spinal surgery that has unfortunately left him paralyzed from the chest down. As many of you know, Matt is one hell of an athlete and it goes without saying his life is forever altered. He is currently in Sequoia Hospital in California but needs to return home to New York. He is physically not able to fly so my mother has to drive him across the country taking many stops. He is also in need of medical equipment (i.e. electric motorized scooter, patient transport stand etc) and any unforeseen out of pocket medical expenses that may come out of this. Funds have been exhausted with simply visiting Matt in CA and I am asking that we as a community help my mother bring her son home. He is alone and as you can imagine needs the support of his family especially my mother as she will now be his caretaker. This is one of the most devastating things that has happened to our family and I am trying to help ease the financial burden of this new journey for my mother.
