First, thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I’m not usually one to ask for help, but right now I could really use some support for our sweet dog, Tux.

On Wednesday, Tux was hit by a car. The driver didn’t stop, and his front left leg was badly injured — he suffered fractures to his ulna and radius, with almost a complete dislocation.

We rushed him to the emergency vet, where we were given three options: surgery, amputation, or splinting. Surgery offered the best outcome but came with a high cost, and we had to choose what we could manage at the time — a splint, which we put on a credit card.

Unfortunately, after a follow-up visit today to remove his fentanyl patch, the vet is doubtful the splint will allow his leg to heal properly given the severity of the injury. We now face two choices: wait 8 weeks with a very small chance of recovery (and risk needing an amputation), or move forward with surgery to save his leg.

The splint alone cost $1,200, and the surgery is estimated at $4,471.90. I’ve been doing everything I can — collecting cans and reselling items — to pay down the initial bill, but the surgery cost is far beyond what we can manage right now.

Tux is such a big part of our family. My partner is self-employed and work has been slow lately, while I stay home with our two little boys, ages 3 and 5. This unexpected expense has been overwhelming, but we’re determined to do everything we can for him.

If you’re local, I’m not asking for a handout — I’d be more than happy to pick up pop cans, take on small tasks I can do with my kids, or accept items I could resell to raise funds. And if you’re able to donate, even the smallest amount helps.
