I am reaching out on behalf of my friend and her son who was badly hurt in a firework accident. Last night around 8:30/9pm my son and a couple of his friends were out on bikes Clark Street boat launch. Another group of boys came up and lit off a huge firework near them with out giving anyone a heads up, and when it blew off my sons friend turned to look and got hit in the eye with a large piece of debris. This friend spent hours in the ER last night, with over an hour of that time spent just getting the debris out of his eye. He had to be medicated for headaches and vomiting. He is going to a follow up today to see about the tear in his eye and if he will need surgery. His mom is a single mom to this young man (an ETHS freshman) and his younger sister living in Evanston and is not financially prepared to handle all the extra expenses. Though they do have insurance, the burden of handling this and the financial stress is taking its toll. Please talk to your kids about fireworks and how dangerous they can be.
